Brian Fonseca (Colorado Rockies)

Welcome. It is a pleasure to be a new member of the Prospects1500 team, and a delight to be covering the Colorado Rockies minor league organization! I have served nearly 35 years primarily as a coach and a teacher. For 16 years, I guided the Reedley College Men’s Basketball team. Reedley College’s current celebrity alumnus, none other than Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

I grew up in Northern California the son of a Portuguese immigrant who delighted in sports fandom, and the exploits of athletes. My childhood home of Isleton, CA lies ideally located between the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, a region rich in professional and collegiate sports teams. Today’s AAA Pacific Coast League and Low-A California League, maintain roots and storied lores more than a century old.

The Oakland A’s, the Oakland Raiders, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, comprised the teams of my ”sports” crest. From the viewpoint in my parent’s “Family Room”, the memories of Reggie Jackson’s 1971 blast in the All-Star Game, off the light tower in right field, remain with me vividly today. I fondly remember the struggle of tracking Gene Tenace’s two World Series Game 1 home runs against the mighty mighty Big Red Machine. Then in Game 2, the clutchest World Series catch above all others, Joe Rudi snaring a game-saving 9th inning drive in left field, safely pulling an out from the high, bright, Cincinnati sky!

Throughout my life, I have held a particular fondness in mass media and journalistic endeavors. I have experience as a sports writer (student newspaper and Sports Information at Sacramento State, A’s Farm contributor, Traffic magazine writer) and as a broadcaster. One of my current adventures is broadcasting with NorCal Sports TV. Additionally, I spent a summer volunteering with the Low-A Visalia Rawhide, along with a season as a baseball scout, tracking players (such as Brock Jones) for Evolution Metrix.
