Phillies Prospects To Keep an Eye On

Even though it’s early in the minor league season, it’s a good time to check in on some of the Phillies prospects that I am keeping an eye on this year. Some of these are the higher ranked players from our Preseason Top 50, but others are deep sleepers who could help your fantasy teams in the future.

Mick Abel, RHP, AAA
Who is he? The team’s first round pick (15th overall) in the 2020 draft is a consensus top 100 prospect in the minors.
Why am I keeping an eye on him? Abel has shown flashes of greatness during his time in the system but has been inconsistent with his command.  With the Phillies looking to contend once again this year, Abel could be called up to help the major league team with some more seasoning. If he can limit the walks, he could be a solid 2 starter in the future..

Griff McGarry, RHP, AAA
Who is he? The team’s fifth round pick in the 2021 draft who averaged 13.3 K/9 during his minor league career.
Why am I keeping an eye on him? McGarry was a starter until this season, when the organization moved him to the bullpen full-time.  It was thought he would be called up last season for the playoff run but it never came to fruition. His wildness has limited his opportunities to be a starter but he could be lights out as a reliever.

Gabriel Rincones, OF, AA
Who is he? The team’s third round pick in the 2022 draft has a great set of tools and is a sleeper for deeper leagues.
Why am I keeping an eye on him? Rincones hit 15 home runs and stole 32 bases last season and looked good in the Arizona Fall League. He came into this year with bigger expectations after being promoted to AA.

Justin Crawford, OF,  High-A
Who is he? The team’s first round pick in the 2022 draft and son of former major leaguer, Carl Crawford.
Why am I keeping an eye on him? As a first round pick, of course we’re going to see what he can do, right? Also, I’m looking to see if he can build off his successful 2023 where he slashed .332/.392/.467 with 47 stolen bases with 3 home runs. So far this season he already has 2 home runs in about 325 less at-bats. Can the power go up even more this year? If so, we could be looking at a special player.

Jordan Dissin, C, High-A
Who is he?  The team’s 12th round pick in the 2022 draft is a local kid who we interviewed last summer for the site.
Why am I keeping an eye on him?  Dissin has developing power and is great behind the plate defensively.  He can also get on base very well and has the leadership intangibles one looks for in a catcher. With Realmuto getting older, the team could look to bring more youth at the spot to give him more rest and Dissin is the closest catcher to the big leagues.

Samuel Aldegheri, LHP, High-A
Who is he? An international signee from July 2019, Aldegheri is trying to become the first Italian pitcher in the major leagues since 1950.
Why am I keeping an eye on him? As the Italian Stallion in the city of Philadelphia, Aldegheri could certainly become a fan favorite in the big leagues. Imagine him coming out to the song “Eye of the Tiger” – the fans would go wild!  Aldegheri is more than just a gimmick – in his four seasons in the organization, he has a 11.2 K/9 and can reach the mid 90’s with his fastball. He projects as a back-end rotation type.

Aidan Miller, 3B, A
Who is he? The team’s first round pick in the 2023 draft has been overshadowed by other players picked higher than him but this year can change that perception.
Why am I keeping an eye on him? Miller impressed many scouts during his high school career but a broken hamate bone prevented him from playing his senior year causing him to call to the 27th spot of the draft. He has great power and an advanced approach at the plate and could move quickly up the rankings with a solid 2024.

Nikau Pouaka-Grego, SS, A
Who is he? International signee from 2022
Why am I keeping an eye on him? As a 17 year old, NPG had the same number of walks as strikeouts while hitting .301 with 3 home runs. Greater things were expected in 2023 until he tore his ACL which caused him to miss the entire season.  He’s back this year to resume his career and, while he doesn’t project to be an All Star, NPS has the ability to be a solid contributor to your fantasy teams in a few years.

George Klassen, RHP, A
Who is he? The team’s sixth round pick in the 2023 draft.
Why am I keeping an eye on him?  Klassen hasn’t been ranked very high on Phillies prospects list because of his command issues and, of course, only being selected last year but he’s impressed big time in his first two starts this season. In 10 innings, he’s struck out 17 hitters while giving up only 3 hits. More importantly, he’s walked zero batters.
