Welcome back to another edition of Prospects of the Week at Prospects 1500! This is our second to last week of the Arizona Fall League, so make sure you’re tuning in. There are quite a few new faces on the list once again, so let’s get to it.

Hitters

Conner Capel, OF, Cardinals

6/14, 1 2B, 2 HR, 13 TB, .429/.500/.929/1.429

Conner Capel makes his debut on our PotW list this week with a power-packed performance. His 2 homer day on Sunday vaulted him to the top of the list and capped off what had already been a solid week. Capel’s 13 total bases were tied for the league lead this session and more than doubled his total output so far. Perhaps this is just the spark he was looking for.

Devin Mann, 2B, Dodgers

5/9, 3 2B, 1 HR, 11 TB, .556/.667/1.222/1.889

Devin Mann only had 9 official at bats this past week, but, boy, did he make them count! Mann went 5/9 and 4 of those hits went for extra bases: 3 doubles and a homer. Mann worked 3 walks to go along with his 11 total bases as he destroyed AFL pitching this week. Is it possible that the Dodgers have yet another middle infield masher in their system?

Alec Bohm, 3B, Phillies

7/14, 3 2B, 1 HR, 13 TB, .500/.533/.929/1.462

Mr. Bohm lived up to his name this week and ripped bombs all over the park. Alec was 7 for 14 with 3 doubles and a homerun, tying for the lead this week with 13 total bases. He’s known as one of the premier power hitters in the minor leagues and he certainly lived up to it this week. Teams just couldn’t get him out.

Pitchers

Penn Murfee, RHP, Mariners

8IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 15 K, 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP

Welcome to the AFL prospects of the week, Penn Murfee! Penn has been on the cusp of making the list each week so far and “finally” broke through in a big way. In 2 starts this week, he decimated hitters by striking out 15 while giving up 6 hits and walking 1. Murfee has been on fire throughout the AFL season though. He leads the league in Ks (30), has the 2nd lowest ERA (1.23) among pitchers with at least 15IP and has a WHIP under 1. Penn Murfee has unquestionably been one of the best hurlers in the Arizona Fall League this year.

Sterling Sharp, RHP, Nationals

10IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 5 BB, 12 K, 0.90 ERA, 0.70 WHIP

If once is good, then twice is nice, right? Sharp is back on the list for his second consecutive week after a terrific two-start performance. He tallied 10 innings of 1-run ball while striking out a dozen batters. The 5 walks aren’t ideal, but given that he only allowed 2 hits with a WHIP well under 1… well, you get the picture.

Ashton Goudeau, RHP, Rockies

4IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 7 K, 0.00 ERA, 0.25 WHIP

Normally, guys pitching in relief aren’t going to crack this list, but Ashton Goudeau is an exception. He tossed 4 nearly perfect innings this week and struck out 7 of the 13 batters he faced for a ridiculous 53.85 K%. If you looked up the word domination in the dictionary this week, you’d find a picture of Ashton there. Goudeau has compiled 13 scoreless AFL innings thus far after an undeniably stellar summer in AA where he notched a 2.07 ERA in 78 ⅓ innings.

The most effective pitcher to date in the always-hitter-friendly @MLBazFallLeague? That would be #Rockies‘ Ashton Goudeau, who has been untouchable: 13 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 18 K.
