Each week during the Minor League Baseball season we pick the hitting and pitching prospects from each level (Triple-A, Double-A, High-A, and Single-A) who, in our opinion, had the best week. The team awards the Prospects of the Week hitters and pitchers for each level, while also presenting other names at each level that are just as deserving of POTW honors. Feel free to reply in the comments with any player who deserves to be mentioned that may not have made our cut.

Any issues with this week’s POTW? Did we miss anyone deserving? Hit us up and set us straight! As always, tweet us @Prospects1500 when you see a great performance that warrants consideration for Prospect of the Week. Enjoy, and make sure you’re keeping an eye out for these prospects in your dynasty leagues.

Triple-A

CO-HITTERS:
Mark Payton, OF (White Sox NR)
Charlotte Knights (6 G, .400/.464/.960/1.424, 10 H, 2 2B, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB, 2 SB)
Chicagoland native Mark Payton is the epitome of a minor league grinder. He was selected in three different MLB drafts, finally signing with the Yankees after his seventh round selection in 2014. The hometown White Sox are his fifth organization and the 30-year-old outfielder has thrived with the AAA Charlotte Knights. Although he has received big league call-ups from three different teams, he has never been given an opportunity to stick. The sweet-swinging left-handed outfielder slashed .400/.464/.960 last week chipping in four bombs and two stolen bases. One of his home runs came at the expense of Brewers top prospect Ethan Small. (@slydanno70)

Jake Alu, 3B (Nationals #24)
Rochester Red Wings (6 G, .435/.440/1.087/1.527, 10 H, 3 2B, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R, BB)
Alu dominated in Triple-A this week, hitting over .400 to go with 4 bombs. The 25-year-old has always been a solid bat, with an offensive track record of respectable power, speed, hitting ability, and plate discipline; think 40s across the board. Given the state of affairs in Washington, there’s a decent chance he makes his debut before the season’s out, especially with more weeks like this. (@hdouglasotto)

Honorable Mentions:
Will Brennan, OF (Guardians #13)
Columbus Clippers (6 G, .516/.531/.710/1.241, 16 H, 4 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 6 R, BB, SB)
Michael Stefanic, 2B (Angels #29)
Salt Lake Bees (6 G, .571/.654/1.095/1.749, 12 H, 3 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 4 BB)
Pacific Coast League Player of the Week!
C.J. Hinojosa, MI (Padres NR)
El Paso Chihuahuas (7 G, .357/.333/.893/1.226, 10 H, 6 2B, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 7 R)

PITCHER: Jared Koenig, LHP (Athletics #26)
Las Vegas Aviators (1 GS, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K)
Koenig was just outside my preseason Athletics top-50 list. He came out hot to start this season and made a believer out of me. Due to his early season success in Las Vegas, he earned a shot in the big league rotation. In 5 starts (and one relief appearance), the 28-year-old southpaw went 1-3 with a 5.72 ERA. After a rough first couple of starts back in Triple-A, he rebounded nicely this week against Sacramento. He is never going to be a big strikeout guy but he won’t walk very many either. He profiles as a back-of-the-rotation starter or middle reliever that could give quality innings in bulk.

Honorable Mentions:
Drew Rom, LHP (Orioles #13)
Norfolk Tides (1 GS, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K)
Jose Butto, RHP (Mets #11)
Syracuse Mets (1 GS, 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K)
Taj Bradley, RHP (Rays #2)
Durham Bulls (1 GS, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K)
Shawn Dubin, RHP (Astros #36)
Sugar Land Space Cowboys (2 GS, 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 10 K)
Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week!

Double-A

HITTER: Cade Marlowe, OF (Mariners #17)
Arkansas Travelers (6 G, .480/.552/1.280/1.832, 12 H, 2 2B, 6 HR, 11 RBI, 11 R, 4 BB)
Texas League Player of the Week!
It’s rare for teams to expect much from a 20th-round draft pick. Don’t tell that to Cade Marlowe, who after a 6 homerun week, appears to be a part of the Seattle Mariners’ long-term plans whether he’s a 20th-round pick or not. Marlowe is a very safe player for Seattle. At his floor, he’s going to have consistent MLB at-bats. His ceiling? Marlowe could very well be an All-Star and rapidly develop a cult-like status among the fans as current Mariner and team sparkplug, Jesse Winker, has had this year. (@DGentleman9288)

Honorable Mentions:
Izzy Wilson, OF (Red Sox NR)
Portland Sea Dogs (5 G, .563/.611/1.188/1.799, 9 H, 4 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 2 SB)
Eastern League Player of the Week!
Andres Chaparro, 3B (Yankees NR)
Somerset Patriots (5 G, .474/.522/1.053/1.575, 9 H, 2 2B, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 SB)
Blaine Crim, 1B (Rangers #21)
Frisco RoughRiders (6 G, .375/.488/.792/1.240, 9 H, 4 2B, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 7 R, 4 BB, SB)
Leonel Valera, SS (Dodgers #27)
Tulsa Drillers (6 G, .333/.387/.704/1.091, 9 H, 2B, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 7 R, 3 BB, 3 SB)

PITCHER: Cody Laweryson, RHP (Twins #34)
Wichita Wind Surge (2 GS, 11 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 13 K)
Texas League Pitcher of the Week!
Laweryson is someone who hasn’t received a lot of fanfare this season, but probably should have. The 23-year-old righty has been solid all year, as his final week encapsulated just how good he really is. Laweryson threw for eleven innings of shutout ball over two starts and struck out thirteen batters while surrendering just three hits and one walk. He is definitely someone to watch going forward as he cruised his way through Double-A ball en route to being one of the best pitchers within the Twins’ organization. (@sportz_nutt51)

Honorable Mentions:
Christian Roa, RHP (Reds #30)
Chattanooga Lookouts (1 GS, 6 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 8 K)
Southern League Pitcher of the Week!
Quinn Priester, RHP (Pirates #5)
Altoona Curve (1 GS, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K)
Eastern League Pitcher of the Week!
Andrew Abbott, LHP (Reds #5)
Chattanooga Lookouts (2 GS, 10 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 13 K)
Mason Montgomery, LHP (Rays #16)
Montgomery Biscuits (2 GS, 9 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 11 K)

High-A

HITTER: Robert Perez Jr., 1B/OF (Mariners #21)
Everett AquaSox (6 G, .450/.577/1.050/1.627, 9 H, 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 4 R, 4 BB)
Northwest League Player of the Week!
Perez has been with the Seattle organization since 2017. His 2022 breakout has certainly been worth the wait. He started the season with Low-A Modesto. Now with High-A Everett, he’s hitting .342 in 120 at bats with 7 home runs. As one of the top emerging prospects and power hitters in the Seattle system, expect the Mariners to keep a close eye on Perez going forward. (@DGentleman9288)

Honorable Mentions:
Jasson Dominguez, OF (Yankees #3)
Hudson Valley Renegades (5 G, .400/.500/.950/1.450, 8 H, 3B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 5 R, 4 BB, SB)
South Atlantic League Player of the Week!
J.C. Correa, SS (Astros #18)
Asheville Tourists (5 G, .550/.542/.650/1.192, 11 H, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB)
Lawrence Butler, 1B (Athletics #19)
Lansing Lugnuts (4 G, .471/.500/.941/1.441, 8 H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 6 R, BB, SB)
Dillan Shrum,  (Royals NR)
Quad City River Bandits (6 G, .263/.481/.947/1.428, 5 H, 2B, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 6 R, 5 BB)

CO-PITCHERS
A couple of Jersey Shore BlueClaws pitchers had big weeks and will share the honor this week.

Victor Vargas, RHP (Phillies NR)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws (1 GS, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K)
Vargas, a 2017 J2 signee, has looked solid this year. He doesn’t miss many bats but has great control. He’s Rule 5 eligible after this season so it’ll be interesting it another team takes a chance on him if the Phillies don’t put him on their 40-man roster. (@tonybps1)

Kyle Glogoski, RHP (Phillies #49)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws (1 GS, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K)
South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week!
Glogoski, an international free agent signing from New Zealand is finally healthy this year and showing why the Phillies were excited to sign him back in January of 2018. (@tonybps1)

Honorable Mentions:
Jeffrey Colon, RHP (Mets NR)
Brooklyn Cyclones (1 GS, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 8 K)
Dominic Hamel, RHP (Mets NR)
Brooklyn Cyclones (1 GS, 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, BB, 8 K)
Michael Dominguez, RHP (Blue Jays NR)
Vancouver Canadians (1 GS, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 9 K)
Northwest League Pitcher of the Week!

Single-A

HITTER: Oscar Santos, C (Diamondbacks NR)
Visalia Rawhide (6 G, .391/.462/.957/1.419, 9 H, 2B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB)
Santos had a torrid week for Single-A Visalia, showing tons of power. Everything was going his way, as he managed to produce despite striking out seven times in six games and only walking twice. He’s been a fairly aggressive hitter with inconsistent power since being drafted in 2019, showing elevated strikeout rates along the way. He’ll need to show some more consistency in his game and cut his 40.9 K% to project for impact. (@hdouglasotto)

Honorable Mentions:
Gavin Cross, OF (Royals NR)
Columbia Fireflies (5 G, .381/.458/.857/1.315, 8 H, 2 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB)
Has there been a better start from anyone in the 2022 draft class? In 109 at bats he is hitting .312/.437/1.070 with 8 HR and 25 RBI.

Samuel Zavala, OF (Padres #7)
Lake Elsinore Storm (6 G, .348/.400/.870/1.270, 8 H, 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 7 R, 2 BB, SB)
Isaac Bellony, OF (Orioles NR)
Delmarva Shorebirds (5 G, .600/.619/.650/1.269, 12 H, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R, BB)
Brock Jones, OF (Rays NR)
Charleston RiverDogs (5 G, .400/.520/..850/1.370, 8 H, 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R, 5 BB, 3 SB)
Carolina League Player of the Week!

PITCHER: Yu-Min Lin, LHP (Diamondbacks NR)
Visalia Rawhide (1 GS, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 10 K)
California League Pitcher of the Week!
Lin turned in perhaps the best start of his pro career this week. The teenage southpaw has shown intriguing skills in 33.1 Single-A IP this season, including a 24.3% K-BB%. He’s proving to be a prolific strikeout pitcher so far, though the walk rate (11.4%) and swinging strike rate (12.7%) could use some improvement. For a system with so much of their top pitching talent at the upper levels, it’s nice to see Lin represent some upside in the lower minors. (@hdouglasotto)

Honorable Mentions:
Estibenzon Jimenez, RHP (Phillies NR)
Clearwater Threshers (1 GS, 5 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 8 K)
Florida State League Pitcher of the Week!
Ryan Webb, LHP (Guardians NR)
Lynchburg Hillcats (2 GS, 9 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 17 K)
Carolina League Pitcher of the Week!
Moises Chace, RHP (Orioles NR)
Delmarva Shorebirds (1 GS, 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 7 K)
Joseph Hernandez, RHP (Mariners NR)
Modesto Nuts (1 GS, 5 IP, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K)
