Daniel Hoyle (Cubs & Blue Jays)

Hey folks! I’m Daniel, and I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to contribute to Prospects1500. I’ll be working the Cubs beat and providing occasional Blue Jays coverage as well. I can’t wait to deep dive into these systems and share my thoughts with you.

Baseball has been one of the great, constant joys of my life. It provided a bonding experience with my dad growing up and was a source of so many friendships through school. When I went to college, our shared love of baseball was essentially the first thing my roommate and I realized we had in common. He remains one of my closest friends, and we talk baseball on a near daily basis. I’m still trying to play, although beer league softball is about as good as it gets these days. We were already working with pretty limited athleticism to begin with, and we ain’t getting any younger.

I grew up in the North Carolina foothills watching my Tar Heels and Braves, and the 1991 worst-to-first Braves captivated me in a way no team had before. The ridiculous highs and soul-crushing lows of that season just roped me in, and I’ve been passionate about baseball ever since. Two years later, my hometown Hickory Crawdads were established, and I was introduced to minor league baseball. Those early opportunities to see the pro game up close and personal really made a lasting impact on me. Conrad the Crawdad is the best mascot in the minors by the way. I will hear no argument.

These days I’m living just outside Austin, TX in the town of Round Rock where the Texas Rangers AAA affiliate resides. I’m just three miles from the stadium, so it’s a great opportunity to see high level baseball on a regular basis.

I do have other interests outside baseball, I guess. I love horror movies. The live music scene in Austin is amazing, and I try to catch as many shows as I can. I’m just getting back into collecting baseball cards, which has been a ton of fun. But holy crow, there are so many products. I put a couple hundred hours into Elden Ring. Does that count as a hobby?

Anyway, that’s enough about me. I’m so excited to be a part of the team at Prospects1500, and I really appreciate you reading our content! You can find me here and on Twitter @ATXRainDog. Please feel free to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you.

Daniel is a longtime baseball fanatic, born and raised in North Carolina on a sports diet of Tar Heels basketball and Braves baseball. He has lived in the Austin area since 2006 and now resides just a few miles from the Dell Diamond where the Texas Rangers AAA affiliate Round Rock Express play their home games. He has been playing fantasy baseball for more than 20 years, and over the past 5 years has developed a potentially unhealthy relationship with dynasty baseball. His deepest league is a mostly offline 20 team contracts league with 130-man rosters, and he enters 2023 looking to defend his first league title.
