San Francisco Giants Pitching Prospect Standouts

While the San Francisco Giants are plugging away in an attempt to hold off the mighty Dodgers and the star-studded Padres, the minor league season is a little over a month old. You may have missed it or had no clue but here we are, one month through. This time last year we all were in doubt that baseball would even happen, let alone, minor league baseball would exist. Well, as it turns out, we missed out on watching prospects develop and teams building their organization. Fast forward to the present, now we have all of the baseball and I, could not be happier.

While wins and losses at the minor league level are relatively unimportant, stats still live and they’re what drive people like me. Being able to look in the box score is one thing but seeing the trend and the development of the players is extremely important to an organization. In an organization that has many highly talented relief prospects, the Giants are starting to find a few starting pitching prospects that may help in the long run. Below, I’ll highlight a few of those pitching prospects that have shined early on and ones to keep an eye on in dynasty leagues.


Kyle Harrison, LHP
Age: 19
In a handful of starts, Harrison has been nothing short of impressive. His walk rate will stand out, 19 BB in 22.2 IP, you’ll need to understand that Harrison is coming out of HS as he was drafted in 2019 and missed an entire year of competitive game action due to MiLB not playing in 2020. Relax. Pay attention to the fact that most hitters are baffled by his potent repertoire and realize you are watching one of the better prospects to come through the system as a starting pitcher in quite some time. Harrison currently has struck out 39 out of 105 batters he’s faced.

Caleb Kilian, RHP
Age: 24
Kilian has been very impressive in his short time with the Giants. During instructs, Kilian was reportedly showing higher velocity and that has translated over to his second season with the Giants. In 2019, Kilian was able to showcase some of his skills to the tune of a solid 17:2 K:BB in 16 IP. Leapfrog 2020, we all know we wish we could have, and take a look at what he’s been able to accomplish in 2021. Recently promoted to AA Richmond, Kilian made his debut and has been solid in 2 appearances, 9.0 IP, 11 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. Before his call-up, Kilian posted an intriguing 21.2 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 32 K with a 0.46 WHIP.

Carson Ragsdale, RHP
Age: 23
The Giants made another savvy move in acquiring Ragsdale in a trade with the Phillies for longtime farmhand Sam Coonrod. Ragsdale has been posting tremendous numbers since being acquired by the Giants, further solidifying the importance of acquiring the young RHP out of South Florida. In 24.2 IP, Ragsdale has a stellar 45:7 K:BB ratio while adding in a 0.85 WHIP against 98 hitters.

Matt Frisbee, RHP
Age: 24
Arguably the best last name in the Giants organization, Frisbee is not just a name, he’s been an impressive arm ever since the Giants drafted him in the 15th round out of UNC Greensboro. Just typing those words brings back many memories of my time in college. While you aren’t here to read about those, you are here to read about why this young RHP is worthy enough to be listed here. Well during his short time with the Giants, Matt has been able to amass a solid 214:42 K:BB ratio in 181.2 IP and in 2021, he hasn’t skipped a beat. Matt has notched 32:1 ratio in 29 IP and while maintaining that level of excellence will be difficult, you can see by his past results, he’s been able to achieve a high K rate and that continues to show. Recently promoted to AAA Sacramento, keep an eye on how he adjusts to the more advanced level in the next couple of months.

Ryan Murphy, RHP
Age: 21
Drafted in the 5th round in 2020 out of Le Moyne College, Murphy showcased enough skills for the Giants to spend one of their few draft picks on a guy pitching at Division 2. Murphy has started his career right where he left off, by striking out hitters and putting his team in a good position to succeed. Starting to begin his career, Ryan has a solid 39:7 K:BB ratio during 6 starts in 28.2 IP. Continue to keep an eye on him as he develops over the rest of the year.
