After a winter filled with worries about the lockout, the baseball season is on! Both sides cut it very close and it looked dismal at times, but cooler heads prevailed. As with all teams starting Spring Training, the Phillies invited players to MLB camp, so let’s take at which prospects were chosen and if they can help your fantasy teams this season. For more information on these players and the team’s other prospects, check out my Phillies Top 50 List.

Johan Rojas, OF
Age: 21
DOB: 08/14/2000
Highest Level in 2021: A+
Preseason Top 50 Rank: 1
2021 Stats: .263/.329/.417, 381 AB, 11 HR, 34 SB
Why was he invited to Spring Training? Rojas is the organization’s top position prospect and, arguably, their top overall prospect, too. He has a great set of tools and performed very well in 2021 showing a great combination of speed, power and defense. He earned the invitation to spend time with the major league coaches to learn from them for when he’s ready to make an impact in the big leagues next year.
Odds of making Opening Day Roster: 0%
Odds of being promoted in 2022: 10%
What would have to happen to see him promoted?  As special as Rojas is, he’s still only 20 years old and hasn’t appeared above A ball in his young career. Sadly, there’s hardly any scenario in which he will make the major leagues this year unless it’s a September call up.

Bryson Stott, SS
Age: 24
DOB: 10/06/1997
Highest Level in 2021: AAA
Preseason Top 50 Rank: 3
2021 Stats: .299/.390/.486, 418 AB, 16 HR, 10 SB
Why was he invited to Spring Training?  Stott, the team’s 1st round pick in the 2019 draft, had a great 2021, capped off by being named to the Arizona Fall League All-Star Game. He reached base safely in all 26 games he appeared in while in the desert. Stott is ready for a spot in the big leagues and there is a great chance he breaks camp with the major league team.
Odds of making Opening Day Roster: 50%
Odds of being promoted in 2022: 100%
What would have to happen to see him promoted?  Didi Gregorius performs the same way he did last year and the team doesn’t sign any veteran middle infielders. Stott will help your fantasy team this year with his all-around skills.

Logan O’Hoppe, C
Age: 22
DOB: 02/09/2000
Highest Level in 2021: AAA
Preseason Top 50 Rank: 5
2021 Stats: .270/.331/.458, 393 AB, 17 HR, 6 SB
Why was he invited to Spring Training? O’Hoppe shot up the organization’s ranks this off-season after a successful 2021 where he was promoted from A+ to AA to AAA and even appeared in the Arizona Fall League where he started for the West in the All-Star Game. This invitation is the team’s way of rewarding him for last year in addition to getting him ready to take over the catcher spot once JT Realmuto moves to DH or 1B.
Odds of making Opening Day Roster: 25%
Odds of being promoted in 2022: 75%
What would have to happen to see him promoted? As of now, Rafael Marchan, Donny Sands and Garrett Stubbs are on the 40-man roster and Marchan looks to be the main backup at catcher. He’s hit well in the minors but if his struggles at the major league level continue, we could expect to see O’Hoppe being called up to replace him.

Darick Hall, 1B
Age: 26
DOB: 07/25/1995
Highest Level in 2021: AAA
Preseason Top 50 Rank: 47
2021 Stats: .230/.338/.403, 400 AB, 14 HR, 2 SB
Why was he invited to Spring Training?
Odds of making Opening Day Roster: 10%
Odds of being promoted in 2022: 25%
What would have to happen to see him promoted? It’s very realistic that Hall can make his major league debut this season after being in the organization since 2016 when he was drafted in the 14th round. Hall’s power has never been in question but strikeouts have been plentiful, limiting his overall potential. He has played 1B and outfield in the minor leagues and could DH now with the National League adopting it this upcoming season.

Braeden Ogle, LHP
Age: 24
DOB: 07/30/1997
Highest Level in 2021: AAA
Preseason Top 50 Rank: Unranked
2021 Stats: 50.2 IP, 5.68 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, 10.7 K/9
Why was he invited to Spring Training? The Phillies obtained the left-hander from Pittsburgh in July of last year for catching prospect Abrahan Guiterrez. He was a 4th round pick by the Pirates in the 2016 MLB Draft and would have been eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this year, so they elected to move him rather than either putting him on the 40-man roster or risk losing him in the draft. Ogle has command issues but does strike out a good number of batters. The team would like to get a look at him in Spring Training in hopes he can contribute to the bullpen sometime this year.
Odds of making Opening Day Roster: 10%
Odds of being promoted in 2022: 50%
What would have to happen to see him promoted? The Phillies have had problems in the bullpen for the last few years. If those struggles continue into this year, there’s no reason for the organization not to give Ogle a chance to see what he can do in the majors.

Kyle Dohy, LHP
Age: 25
DOB: 09/17/1996
Highest Level in 2021: AAA
Preseason Top 50 Rank: Unranked
2021 Stats: 42.2 IP, 2.95 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 13.7 K/9
Why was he invited to Spring Training? Dohy pitched one inning in the majors last year and teams are always looking for good left-handed pitching. He pitched very well during his minor league career and could be ready to contribute to the bullpen.
Odds of making Opening Day Roster: 25%
Odds of being promoted in 2022: 75%
What would have to happen to see him promoted? Same scenario as with Ogle but I think the organization would call Dohy up first if they are in need of a lefthander in the bullpen. He could be a sneaky source of strikeouts and holds in fan

Edgar Cabral, C
Age: 26
DOB: 09/26/1995
Highest Level in 2021: AAA
Preseason Top 50 Rank: Unranked
2021 Stats: .221/.333/.302, 102 AB, 0 HR, 0 SB
Why was he invited to Spring Training? Cabral was the team’s 11th round draft pick back in 2015. In just over a thousand minor league at-bats, he has 17 home runs with a .247 BA. He received an invitation perhaps as part of the contract he resigned earlier this month after becoming a minor league free agent.
Odds of making Opening Day Roster: 0%.
Odds of being promoted in 2022: 0%
What would have to happen to see him promoted? Injuries to JT Realmuto, Rafael Marchan, Logan O’Hoppe, Donny Sands, Garrett Stubbs, and most unemployed veteran catchers would leave the team no choice but to promote Cabral to the majors.

Other non-prospects invited:
Justin Williams, OF
Scott Kingery, 2B/OF
Nick Duron, RHP
Yairo Munoz, INF
Cam Bedrosian, RHP
Tyler Cyr, RHP
Joe Gatto, RHP
Michael Kelly, RHP
Jake Newberry, RHP
