Minor league baseball is back, and I wanted to highlight one player from each level that has gotten off to a fast start! The future is bright! Hit me up on Twitter @stoffer81 and let’s talk baseball!

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp AAA-E
Jesus Sanchez has started the 2021 season on FIRE!! Appearing in 14 games (56 AB) he has walked four times and has as almost many extra base hits (11) as he does strikeouts (12), he is slugging 1.000 with a .500 BA and a .533 OBP! WOW! He’s locked in at the plate and the only thing he is not doing is stealing bases.

Sanchez and Ryne Stanek were acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on July 31, 2019 for Nick Anderson and Trevor Richards. Fun trivia note, it was also the same day the Marlins sent Zac Gallen to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Jazz Chisholm. I will concede that Sanchez’s BABIP of .568 is well above his career mark (.200) and will level out. His K% (20%), in line with his minor league career (19.9%) indicates that he hasn’t sold out for the long ball while his GB% is settling in at 38.7%, roughly 10% lower than his MiLB average. Assuming Jesus Sanchez continues to stay healthy and producing I could see a call back to Miami before the 3-game series against Colorado on June 8th.
Honorable Mention: Lewin Diaz and Brian Navarreto

Pensacola Blue Wahoos AA-S

Jake Eder was selected in the 4th round of the 2020 MLB Draft (104 overall) out of Vanderbilt. He has started 3 games, firing 15 innings with a 0.60 ERA, 1.067 WHIP totaling 26 strikeouts! He has allowed 7 hits, but also 9 walks. His K/9 is at 15.6 and his strike percentage is 60.9%. The scouting report on Eder was that he would struggle to repeat his delivery but he had one of the best breaking balls in the draft class.
Honorable Mention: Colton Hock and Jerar Encarnacion

Beloit Snappers A+

Zach McCambley was selected in the 3rd round of the 2020 MLB Draft (75 overall) out of Coastal Carolina. He has started 3 games, firing 17 innings with a 3.18 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, totaling 21 strikeouts! He’s allowed 12 hits to go along with 2 walks. His K/9 is at 11.12 and his strike percentage is at 67%. The scouting report on McCambley, many believed he had the best curveball in the Draft that would grade out at a plus-plus weapon but would need to develop a change to remain in the rotation.
Honorable Mention: Connor Scott, Ricky Aracena and Kyle Nicolas

Jupiter Hammerheads A-

Eury Perez was signed in 2019 as a 16-year-old out of the Dominican Republic. He has started 3 games, firing 12 innings with a 1.50 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, totaling 17 strikeouts! He’s given up 7 hits and 4 walks while only allowing 2 earned runs. His K/9 is at 12.75 and his strike percentage is at 65.6%. Perez stands out at 6’8” and weighing in at 200 pounds he has a projectable frame that has a smooth easy delivery and received high praise as the most impressive pitcher in Marlins camp during the instructional league.
Honorable Mention: Jackson Rose and Federico Polanco

Stoffer is an avid baseball fan who grew up in the heart of Braves country, but felt he never really fit in until the Marlins came along and then it was game over. He has been playing in deep dynasty keeper leagues for 20+ years and only plays in leagues where there is a prospect component. He currently resides in Jacksonville, Florida, which is the perfect place for him because it's home to the Jumbo Shrimp, the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate.
