Each week during the Minor League Baseball season we pick the hitting and pitching prospects from each level (Triple-A, Double-A, High-A, and Low-A) who, in our opinion, had the best week. Jake Berry and Scott Greene award their Prospects of the Week hitters and pitchers for each level, while also presenting other names at each level that are just as deserving of POTW honors.

As always, tweet us (@Prospects1500, @BerrysBraves, and @Scotty_Ballgame) when you see a great performance that warrants consideration for Prospect of the Week. Enjoy, and make sure you’re keeping an eye out for these prospects in your dynasty leagues.

Triple-A

HITTER: Taylor Trammell, OF (Seattle Mariners #6)
Tacoma Rainiers (4 G, .611/.650/1.111, 11 H, 3 HR, 9 RBI, SB)
Trammell was sent down after struggling at the big league level and despite only logging four minor league games last week, he still earned Triple-A hitter of the week by racking 11 hits and two walks in 20 plate appearances. Three of those 11 hits were long balls.

Honorable Mentions:
Jarren Duran, OF (Boston Red Sox #4)
Worcester Red Sox (6 G, .304/.429/.826, 7 H, 3 HR, 3 2B, 6 RBI, 3 SB)
Nope, this wasn’t a Scotty Ballgame homer pick. Berry made this selection because no one else in Triple-A had three homers and three steals last week.

PITCHER: Deivi Garcia, RHP (New York Yankees #3)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (10 IP, W, 5 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 16 K)
Garcia made two starts last week and dominated in both of them. It was nice to see the Yankees righty return to form after a rough start to his 2021 in both MLB and Triple-A.

Honorable Mentions:
Spencer Howard, RHP (Philadelphia Phillies #1)
Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 11 K)

Double-A

HITTER: Triston Casas, 1B (Boston Red Sox #1)
Portland Sea Dogs (6 G, .462/.481/.846, 12 H, 3 HR, 1 2B, 10 RBI)
The Boston Red Sox top prospect really loved hitting in Hartford last week as the 21-year-old collected at least one hit in every game and multiple hits in four of his six contests. He posted a six RBI game on May 12th that featured three extra base hits including two homers.

Honorable Mentions:
Nick Allen, SS (Oakland A’s #5)
Midland RockHounds (6 G, .636/.690/.773, 14 H, 1 3B, 1 2B, 6 RBI, 5 BB, 2 SB)

PITCHER: Roansy Contreras, RHP (New York Yankees #19 – Published prior to the trade to Pittsburgh)
Altoona Curve (6 IP,  H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K)
After six hitless innings and 11 K’s, Contreras was a no-brainer for Double-A pitcher of the week. The only guy that gave him a run for his money is the honorable mention. I imagine this is a young man you will see relatively high on the Pirates’ next Top 50. It will be interesting to see how our Pirates expert, Greg Rosenthal (@Bucfish, sees him stacking up in this system.

Honorable Mentions:
Elvin Rodriguez, RHP (Detroit Tigers #41)
Erie SeaWolves (5 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K)

High-A

CO-HITTER: Oswald Peraza, SS (New York Yankees #12)
Hudson Valley Renegades (6 G, .429/.500/1.143, 9 H, 5 HR, 2 SB, 8 RBI)
Peraza has been a man on a mission this season and is showcasing his power/speed combo in High-A. The Yankees number 12 prospect is making his case to move up the board and has been one of the most exciting players in the minors so far this year. He was in consideration for POTW last week with 7 steals! There was however another guy this week, who I am guessing you are familiar with, below who performed right on par with Peraza.

CO-HITTER Julio Rodriguez, OF (Seattle Mariners #2)
Everett AquaSox (6 G, .423/.516/1.115, 11 H, 5 HR, 3 2B)
I don’t like to do this often, but the performances from both J-Rod and Peraza were just too good last week. We’re doing CO-HITTERS of the week in High-A as these two guys stole the show across the minors over the last seven days.

PITCHER: Zach McCambley, RHP (Miami Marlins #25)
Beloit Snappers (W, 7 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K)
I mean, it is hard to argue against perfection, right? High-A pitcher of the week was so brutal to pick this week because there were so many strong performances. However, the Marlins 2020 3rd round pick had a start that would be nearly impossible to beat.

Honorable Mentions:
Ken Waldichuk, LHP (New York Yankees NR)
Hudson Valley Renegades (7.1 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 17 K)

Ethan Elliott, LHP (San Diego Padres NR)
Fort Wayne TinCaps (11 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 19 K)

Low-A

HITTER: Luis Matos, OF (San Francisco Giants #4)
San Jose Giants (6 G, .462/.464/.808, 12 H, 2 HR, 3 2B, 7 RBI, 2 SB)
It was a pretty good week from the Giants’ number four prospect as Matos gave San Francisco fans an exciting performance. The Giants outfield depth is well-documented and it continues to look even more legit as Matos posted a two homer, two stolen base, five extra base hit week that saw him get on base nearly 50% of the time.

Honorable Mentions:
Matthew Barefoot, OF (Houston Astros NR)
Fayetteville Woodpeckers (6 G, .423/.448/.654, 11 H, 1 HR, 1 3B, 1 2B, 7 RBI, 3 SB)

PITCHER: Justin Bullock, RHP (Milwaukee Brewers NR)
Carolina Mudcats (W, 6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 12 K)
Carolina got a couple of nice starts last week, but Bullock’s was the best. His command was there all game against Down East and his stuff was nasty as he generated 18 swinging strikes.

Honorable Mentions:
John Beller, LHP (St. Louis Cardinals NR)
Palm Beach Cardinals (6.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 12 K)

I reside in Carrollton, Georgia and love everything baseball. I graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management. I have a passion for the minor leagues and have high hopes of visiting as many minor league parks as I can. I enjoy the statistical side of the game, especially sabermetrics. I am also an avid baseball card collector and fantasy baseball player.
