Each week during the Minor League Baseball season we pick the hitting and pitching prospects from each level (Triple-A, Double-A, High-A, and Low-A) who, in our opinion, had the best week. Jake Berry and Scott Greene award their Prospects of the Week hitters and pitchers for each level, while also presenting other names at each level that are just as deserving of POTW honors. If you agree or disagree with any of these prospects of the week, let us know! Feel free to reply in the comments with any player who deserves to be mentioned that may not have made our cut.

Triple-A

HITTER: Frank Schwindel, 1B/C (Oakland A’s NR)
Las Vegas Aviators (.429/.448/1.179, 12 H, 6 HR, 10 RBI, 3 2B)
Without going down a rabbit hole and doing too much research here, I am willing to say it was a career week for the 29-year-old. Schwindel has played in the majors with Kansas City and while you shouldn’t go out and rush to pick him up in dynasty, we do need to commend what he just did after leading Triple-A in hits and homers.

Sacramento River Cats (.391/.417/.826, 9 H, 3 HR, 8 RBI)

PITCHER: Max Kranick, RHP (Pittsburgh Pirates #42)
Indianapolis Indians (W, 5 IP, 9 K, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 BB)
Kranick was promoted from Double-A to Triple-A early this season and is actually on the Pirates 40-man roster as we speak. The 6’3 righty had an outstanding outing while picking up a victory last week. He struck out nine of the 18 batters he faced and generated 14 swinging strikes.

Luis Patiño, RHP (Tampa Bay Rays #4)
Durham Bulls (W, 5 IP, 7 K, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 BB)

Double-A

HITTER: Taylor Snyder, INF (Colorado Rockies NR)
Hartford Yard Goats (.619/.652/1.524, 13 H, 6 HR, 13 RBI)
I love when the big-name prospects have massive weeks as much as the next guy, but one of my favorite parts of writing POTW is when we have guys like Frank Schwindel and Taylor Snyder dropping six bombs. Again, not a prospect you need to go out and add, but a performance that certainly needs to be commended here in POTW.

Nolan Gorman, 3B (St. Louis Cardinals #2)
Springfield Cardinals (.346/.393/1.154, 9 H, 7 HR, 12 RBI)


PITCHER: Cameron Bishop, LHP (Baltimore Orioles NR)
Bowie Baysox (SV, W, 9 IP, 12 K, 0 ER, 5 H, 0 BB)
The 6’4 lefty came in for two different relief appearances last week and dominated. He closed out both games while tossing several frames in each and picking up a W in one and a save in the other. This POTW honor comes only one week after his Honorable Mention last week following a 5 IP, 0 ER, 12 K stellar outing. He’s tearing it up lately.

Arkansas Travelers (W, 7 IP, 11 K, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 BB)

Janson Junk, RHP (New York Yankees NR)
Somerset Patriots (W, 6 IP, 9 K, 0 ER, 3 H, 1 BB)

High-A

HITTER: Niko Hulsizer, OF (Tampa Bay Rays #32)
Bowling Green Hot Rods (.529/.652/1.294, 9 H, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 6 BB)
Not only was Hulsizer tied for the High-A lead in long balls, but he also drew six walks to just five strikeouts. Hulsizer was seeing the ball extremely well last week and earned himself POTW honors.

Hayden Cantrelle, SS (Milwaukee Brewers #21)
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (.316/.552/.368, 10 BB, 7 SB)

PITCHER: Cade Cavalli, RHP (Washington Nationals #3)
Wilmington Blue Rocks (W, 7 IP, 15 K, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 BB)
I mean wow, what can you really say about Cavalli’s performance here? The numbers speak for themselves as the Nationals’ number three prospect struck out 15 batters in seven shutout innings of work. 29% of his strikes came via the swing and miss showing how truly nasty his stuff was on this night.

Ken Waldichuk, LHP (New York Yankees NR)
Hudson Valley Renegades (W, 6 IP, 10 K, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 BB)

Zach McCambley, RHP (Miami Marlins #25)
Beloit Snappers (6 IP, 10 K, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB)

Low-A

HITTER: Casey Schmitt, 3B (San Francisco Giants #28)
San Jose Giants (.450/.522/1.050, 9 H, 4 HR, 10 RBI)
The Giants 2020 second round pick tied for the Single-A lead in homers while posting a 1.572 OPS. There was also a span of three straight games with a homer for Schmitt last week.

Fresno Grizzlies (.423/.483/.846, 11 H, 2 HR, 1 3B, 2 2B)

PITCHER: Joey Estes, RHP (Atlanta Braves NR)
Augusta GreenJackets (5.2 IP, 11 K, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB)
My friend @jvickery55 is a big Estes supporter and I am sure he is proud of this start. Who wouldn’t be? Estes dominated Myrtle Beach in his start last week and continues to see his stock rise thanks to an outstanding beginning to the Single-A season. This young man will most certainly be on the midseason Braves’ top 50.
