Each week during the Minor League Baseball season we pick the hitting and pitching prospects from each level (Triple-A, Double-A, High-A, Single-A, and Rookie League) who, in our opinion, had the best week. The team awards the Prospects of the Week hitters and pitchers for each level, while also presenting other names at each level that are just as deserving of POTW honors. Feel free to reply in the comments with any player who deserves to be mentioned that may not have made our cut.

Any issues with this week’s POTW? Did we miss anyone deserving? Hit us up and set us straight! As always, tweet us @Prospects1500 when you see a great performance that warrants consideration for Prospect of the Week. Enjoy, and make sure you’re keeping an eye out for these prospects in your dynasty leagues.

Triple-A

HITTER: Jermaine Palacios, SS (Twins #31)
St. Paul Saints (5 G, .476/.522/1.143/1.665, 11 H, 2 2B, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 6 R, BB, SB)
Palacios, the number 31 ranked Twins prospect in the Prospects1500 midseason rankings, continued his fine July with a tremendous week. Over the past seven days, the 26-year-old infielder went 11/23 with four home runs, ten runs batted in, and a stolen base. His epic week was highlighted by a walk-off grand slam, demonstrating the power he developed in his first year with the Twins’ farm system in 2021. Overall, he has shown improvement at the plate since being sent back down to Triple-A and could be an option for the Twins down the stretch as a utility bench player. (@sportz_nutt51)

Honorable Mentions:
Otto Lopez, OF (Blue Jays #8)
Buffalo Bisons (5 G, .556/.591/1.167/1.758, 10 H, 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 7 R, 2 BB, 3 SB)
International League Player of the Week!
Narciso Crook, OF (Cubs NR)
Iowa Cubs (6 G, .391/.462/1.087/1.549, 9 H, 2 2B, 3B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB)
Coco Montes, 2B (Rockies #28)
Albuquerque Isotopes (5 G, .381/.435/.857/1.292, 8 H, 2B, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB)

Round Rock Express (6 G, .389/.522/.944/1.466, 7 H, 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 6 R, 5 BB, 3 SB)

PITCHER: Freddy Tarnok, RHP (Braves #9)
Gwinnett Stripers (1 GS, 6 IP, 2 H, R, 0 BB, 9 K)
Freddy is a rising prospect in the Braves’ system. Recently promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett, he has impressed in his limited debut there. One area of caution is his HR/9 of 1.6 at that level (1.9 HR/9 in High-A last year). (@MKelley_ND)

Honorable Mentions:
Drey Jameson, RHP (Diamondbacks #10)
Reno Aces (1 GS, 7 IP, 4 H, R, 3 BB, 4 K)

Greg Weissert, RHP (Yankees #38)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (3 G, 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 3 SV)

Double-A

HITTER: Joey Ortiz, SS/2B (Orioles #16)
Bowie Baysox (6 G, .519/.536/1.000/1.536, 14 H, 4 2B, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 9 R, BB)
Eastern League Player of the Week!
The Orioles farm system is talented and deep and with a lot of that talent coming through Bowie you can understand how Ortiz could fly under the radar. It is time to give Ortiz his due. He was drafted in the fourth round in 2019 and was known as a really good defender but light with the bat. His defense has not disappointed, showing that he has the ability to stick at shortstop. Know that he has added strength his bat is getting louder, adding intrigue to his profile. He is currently leading the team in hits, doubles, RBI, runs scored, and is tied for third in home runs.

Honorable Mentions:
Brett Baty, 3B (Mets #2)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies (6 G, .462/.517/.885/1.402, 12 H, 2 2B, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, SB)
Colton Cowser, OF (Orioles #3)
Bowie Baysox (5 G, .524/.577/.952/1.529, 11 H, 3 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 8 R, 4 BB)
Shane Selman, OF (Athletics NR)
Midland RockHounds (6 G, .438/.591/1.000/1.591, 7 H, 3 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB)
Jordan Walker, 3B (Cardinals #1)
Springfield Cardinals (5 G, .348/.400/.913/1.313, 8 H, 2B, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB)

PITCHER: Tanner Bibee, RHP (Guardians #30)
Akron RubberDucks (1 GS, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K)
Eastern League Pitcher of the Week!
Bibee closed out his month in style, allowing no runs and just two hits over six innings against Harrisburg on July 27. Since his call up to AA Akron on July 2, Bibee’s control has improved (2 BB over 21.2 IP) while opposing hitters have only mustered a .187 BAA. Bibee continues to stand out among a loaded crop of pitching prospects in the upper levels of Cleveland’s system. (@zbaseball86)

Honorable Mentions:
Blake Walston, LHP (Diamondbacks #4)
Amarillo Sod Poodles (1 GS, 5 IP, H, R, 4 BB, 10 K)
Austin Bergner, RHP (Tigers #36)
Erie SeaWolves (1 GS, 5 IP, 3 H, R, 0 BB, 7 K)
Darius Vines, RHP (Braves #17)
Mississippi Braves (1 GS, 6 IP, 6 H, R, 0 BB, 4 K)
Levi Stoudt, RHP (Mariners #6)
Arkansas Travelers (1 GS, 6 IP, 5 H, R, 0 BB, 5 K)
Stoudt was traded to the Reds as part of the Luis Castillo deal.

High-A

HITTER: Aaron Sabato, 1B (Twins #20)
Cedar Rapids Kernels (6 G, .333/.500/1.000/1.500, 7 H, 2 2B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 10 R, 4 BB, SB)
Midwest League Player of the Week!
Sabato came into this season with the hopes of taking the next step in his development. Armed with a powerful bat, he struggled to begin the season but has since turned it on in the later stages of July. Over his last eight games, Sabato has gone 10/32, while smashing six home runs in the process. While he still struggles with strikeouts, he did limit himself to only nine, while showing some patience with four walks. Hopefully, this is what he needs to catapult him into where the Twins want him to be, going forward. (@sportz_nutt51)

Honorable Mentions:
Dariel Lopez, SS (Pirates #36)
Greensboro Grasshoppers (6 G, .385/.448/.962/1.410, 10 H, 2B, 3B, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 8 R, 3 BB)
Tristan Peters, OF (Brewers #21)
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (6 G, .520/.536/.760/1.296, 13 H, 6 2B, 5 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB)
Cristian Inoa, 2B (Rangers #NR)
Hickory Crawdads (5 G, .600/.652/1.100/1.752, 12 H, 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 10 R, 2 BB)

Jonathan Rodriguez, OF (Guardians #50)

PITCHER: Landon Marceaux, RHP (Angels #21)
Tri-City Dust Devils (1 GS, 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 8 K)
Midwest League Pitcher of the Week!
Marceaux was exceptional this last week pitching 8 scoreless innings with 8 Ks allowing only 3 baserunners. Since April 28th he has averaged 6 innings a start with a 1.98 ERA. Marceaux has a legit 4-pitch mix with great control which gives him a great chance to contribute at the Major League level, its just a matter of time. (@A_Rhodes77)

Honorable Mentions:
Roddery Munoz, RHP (Braves NR)
Rome Braves (1 GS, 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 12 K)
Luis Moreno, RHP (Mets NR)
Brooklyn Cyclones (1 GS, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 7 K)
South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week!
Tristan Beck, RHP (Giants NR)
Sacramento River Cats (1 GS, 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K)
Jamison Hill, RHP (Diamondbacks NR)

Single-A

HITTER: Jase Bowen, OF (Pirates NR)
Bradenton Marauders (6 G, .455/.556/1.000/1.556, 10 H, 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 8 R, 3 BB)
Florida State League Player of the Week!
Bowen is repeating Low A but is starting to figure things out. He is 21 and versatile with time at 1B, 2B, 3B and all three OF positions. This year he is slashing .278/.358/.450 with 13 HR and 20 SB. Bowen is a very good athlete but has been prone to slumps. This week he put it all together. (@Bucfish67)

Honorable Mentions:
Brainer Bonaci, SS (Red Sox #22)
Salem Red Sox (5 G, .444/.500/1.000/1.500, 8 H, 2 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 2 R, 3 BB)
Carolina League Player of the Week!

Carlos Luis, SS (Padres NR)
Lake Elsinore Storm (6 G, .545/.583/.909/1.492, 12 H, 5 2B, HR, 8 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, SB)

PITCHER: Po-Yu Chen, RHP (Pirates #32)
Bradenton Marauders (1 GS, 7 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 5 K)
Florida State League Pitcher of the Week!
Chen is heating up with the weather in the Low A Florida State League. The 20-year-old is having a really strong season striking out nearly 10 per nine and holding opposing hitters to a .214 BA. Chen is ranked 32 in the Pirates midseason top 50 with an arrow pointing up. (@Bucfish67)

Honorable Mentions:
Jared Kelley, RHP (White Sox #9)
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (1 GS, 5 IP, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K)

JJ Goss, RHP (Rays #29)
Charleston RiverDogs (1 GS, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, BB, 4 K)
Cooper Benson, LHP (Blue Jays NR)

Rookie Leagues

HITTER: Karell Paz, OF (Mets NR)
FCL Mets (5 G, .500/.550/1.222/1.772, 9 H, 2 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 8 R, 2 BB, SB)
Florida Complex League Player of the Week!
Like many Cuban baseball players, Paz has a great story of overcoming challenges to get where he is today. He left Cuba (and his family) at 17 years old and over the next five years he traveled through five countries, dealt with a pandemic, and had to wait for his legal documents all to finally have his dream come true and sign with the New York Mets in March. The 6’3″ switch-hitting outfielder is putting together a strong start to his professional career and might be one to get on your radar in deeper fantasy leagues. You can’t help but root for the guy.

Honorable Mentions:
Moises Valero, C (Tigers NR)
FCL Tigers (6 G, .563/.588/.813/1.401, 9 H, 4 2B, 2 RBI, 5 R, BB, SB)

Jose Gerardo, OF (Marlins NR)
DSL Marlins (5 G, .467/.609/1.267/1.876, 7 H, 4 HR, 9 RBI, 7 R, 5 BB)
Dominican Summer League Player of the Week!

Arizona Complex League Player of the Week!

PITCHER: Jorge Martinez, RHP (Giants NR)
DSL Giants Orange (1 GS, 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 6 K)
Martinez threw 6 no-hit innings last week with his only blemishes being a walk and a hit-by-pitch while being matched up against the other Giants squad in the Dominican Summer League. In his second stint in the DSL, he is showing improvement from last year, lowering his WHIP from 1.46 to 1.09 and raising his K/9 rate from 9.4 to 11.4 while keeping his walk rate in check.

Honorable Mentions:
Yondrei Rojas, RHP (Blue Jays NR)
FCL Blue Jays (1 GS, 5 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K)
Florida Complex League Pitcher of the Week!
