Each week during the Minor League Baseball season we pick the hitting and pitching prospects from each level (Triple-A, Double-A, High-A, Low-A, and Rookie ball) who, in our opinion, had the best week. Jake Berry and Scott Greene award their Prospects of the Week hitters and pitchers for each level, while also presenting other names at each level that are just as deserving of POTW honors. Feel free to reply in the comments with any player who deserves to be mentioned that may not have made our cut.

Any issues with this week’s POTW? Did we miss anyone deserving? Hit us up and set us straight!

As always, tweet us (@Prospects1500@BerrysBraves, and @Scotty_Ballgame) when you see a great performance that warrants consideration for Prospect of the Week. Enjoy, and make sure you’re keeping an eye out for these prospects in your dynasty leagues.

Triple-A

HITTER: Bobby Witt Jr., SS/3B (Kansas City Royals #1)
Omaha Storm Chasers (6 G, .296/.387/.815, 8 H, 2 2B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 4 BB, SB)
Do we see Witt in the majors this year? He’s doing everything he can to cement his place as one of THE overall top prospects in the game. Another big week for the second generation superstar.

Honorable Mentions:
Sheldon Neuse, IF (Oakland A’s #3 prior to trade to Dodgers)
Oklahoma City Dodgers (6 G, .400/.423/.920, 10 H, 4 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI)

Vidal Brujan, 2B (Tampa Bay Rays #3)
Durham Bulls (5 G, .391/.417/.565, 9 H, 4 2B, 4 SB)

PITCHER: Aaron Ashby, LHP (Milwaukee Brewers #7)
Nashville Sounds (1 GS, 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 11 K)
The race for Triple-A pitcher of the week was a nail-biter as Ashby and the two honorable mentions had very similar outings, but Ashby’s one extra strikeout gave him the edge.

Honorable Mentions:
Hunter Greene, RHP (Cincinnati Reds #5)
Louisville Bats (1 GS, 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K)

Connor Seabold, RHP (Boston Red Sox #13)
W (1 GS, 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K)

Double-A

HITTER: Peyton Burdick, OF (Miami Marlins #10)
Pensacola Blue Wahoos (6 G, .571/.667/1.286, 12 H, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 6 BB)
It was an unbelievable week from the former third round pick who mashed four long balls and tied for second in all of Double-A in total hits. Burdick’s 1.952 OPS led all of MiLB.

Honorable Mention:
Izzy Wilson, OF (Los Angeles Angels NR)
Rocket City Trash Pandas (5 G, .417/.481/.625, 10 H, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 SB)
6 of Izzy’s 10 hits this week came in Sunday’s affair, helping lead his Naturals squad to a 26-run explosion.

PITCHER: Emilio Vargas, RHP (Chicago White Sox NR)
Birmingham Barons (1 GS, W, 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 12 K)
Kind of like the week prior, the pitching performances were awesome last week and made for a difficult choice. Ultimately, Vargas did enough to earn the honors with a big-time outing.

Honorable Mentions:
Adam Oller, RHP (New York Mets NR)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies (1 GS, W, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 12 K)

Easton McGee, RHP (Tampa Bay Rays NR)
Montgomery Biscuits (2 GS, 2 W, 11 IP, 12 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 16 K)

High-A

HITTER: Ismael Munguia, OF (San Francisco Giants NR)
Eugene Emeralds (5 G, .583/.583/1.000, 14 H, 5 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 10 R, 3 SB)
Munguia put on a clinic and stuffed the stat sheet as he did a little bit of everything last week. He led High-A in hits while scoring a level high 10 times and swiping three bags.

Honorable Mention:
Sean Roby, 3B (San Francisco Giants #38)
Eugene Emeralds (6 G, .423/.464/.885, 11 H, 2 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 7 R, 1 SB)

PITCHER: Zak Kent, RHP (Texas Rangers NR)
Hickory Crawdads (1 GS, W, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 13 K)
It was another tight race for POTW in High-A, but Kent struck over half of the hitters he faced in his outing and it is hard to deny a performance like that one.

Honorable Mention:
Randy Vasquez, RHP (New York Yankees #45)
Hudson Valley Renegades (2 GS, W, 11.2 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 21 K)
Vasquez’s 21 strikeouts led all of Minor League Baseball this past week.

Low-A

HITTER: Joey Wiemer, OF (Milwaukee Brewers #34)
Carolina Mudcats (6 G, .583/.630/1.208, 14 H, 3 2B, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 3 SB)
If we had to pick an overall POTW, Wiemer would get my vote. He blew away Low-A pitching and is currently on a five game streak where he had at least two hits. The biggest news came today (Monday) when he was promoted to High-A Wisconsin.

Honorable Mentions:
Zac Veen, OF (Colorado Rockies #1)
Fresno Grizzlies (5 G, .545/.583/1.045, 12 H, 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 2 SB)

Noelvi Marte, SS (Seattle Mariners #5)
Modesto Nuts (5 G, .455/.538/1.182, 10 H, 1 2B, 5 HR, 13 RBI, 8 R, 3 SB)

PITCHER: Connor Phillips, RHP (Seattle Mariners #19)
Modesto Nuts (1 GS, W, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 12 K)
It was an extremely impressive outing from the Mariners number 19 prospect who has now strung together three straight wins.

Honorable Mention:
Christian Tripp, RHP (Milwaukee Brewers NR)
Carolina Mudcats (2 G, 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 12 K)

Rookie

HITTER: Hedbert Perez, OF (Milwaukee Brewers #2)
ACL Brewers Gold (4 G, .389/.421/.833, 7 H, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 5 R, 1 SB)
Perez launched two long balls and added a stolen base as he racked up seven hits in just four games.

Honorable Mention:
Owen Caissie, OF (Chicago Cubs #15)
ACL Cubs (5 G, .318/.348/.773, 7 H, 2 HR, 6 RBI)

PITCHER: Joe Elbis, RHP (Arizona Diamondbacks NR)
ACL Dbacks (1 GS, W, 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K)
Talk about a stand-out performance for an 18-year-old in Rookie ball!

Honorable Mention:
Adrian Pena, RHP (Los Angeles Angels NR)
ACL Angels (1 GS, W, 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 HP, 9 K)

I reside in Carrollton, Georgia and love everything baseball. I graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management. I have a passion for the minor leagues and have high hopes of visiting as many minor league parks as I can. I enjoy the statistical side of the game, especially sabermetrics. I am also an avid baseball card collector and fantasy baseball player.
