In a normal year, each week during the Minor League Baseball season, Scott Greene and I would pick the hitting and pitching prospects from each level (AAA, AA, A+, A, A- (Short Season) and Rookie ball who, in our opinion, had the best week. The 2020 season is a little bit different. Even though there is no minor league action, we are still going to bring you POTW, but instead of highlighting prospects at each level, we are going to highlight prospect eligible players in the majors!

As always, tweet us (@Prospects1500, @berrys_baseball and @Scotty_Ballgame) when you see a great performance that warrants a consider for Prospect of the Week. Enjoy, and make sure you’re keeping an eye out for these prospects in your dynasty leagues.


Hitters

Jake Cronenworth, INF (San Diego Padres #10)
.423/.500/.692, 11 H, 1 HR, 4 2B, 7 RBI, 4 BB, 1 SB

Cronenworth finds himself on the POTW for the second time this season after hitting safely in each of the Padres seven games last week. He also posted three multi hit games including a three hit performance against the Astros where he hit a grand slam. The former Rays farmhand is off to an exceptional start for his career and will look to add to his seven game hit streak next week.

Alec Bohm, 3B (Philadelphia Phillies #1)
.389/.542/.611, 7 H, 1 HR, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 4 R, 6 BB

The Phillies top prospect had himself quite a week which also saw him hit his first big league home run on Sunday night against the Braves. The Wichita State product had three multi-hit games, but he also impressed by drawing six walks to just four strikeouts, something a lot of veteran big leaguers have a hard time doing.


Luis Garcia, 2B (Washington Nationals #2)
.400/.429/.550, 8 H, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 5 R

The Nationals young talent has them looking like contenders over the foreseeable future and Garcia proved last week why he is a big part of those plans. His eight hits and his .429 OBP last week put the Nationals preseason number two prospect in position to score five runs for his club.

Honorable Mention: Dylan Carlson, OF (St. Louis Cardinals #1)
Carlson didn’t have a great week offensively, and has been struggling since his promotion, but… he smashed his first MLB home run on Sunday. Hopefully this is the first of many and it kickstarts a hitting streak!

Pitchers

Triston McKenzie, RHP (Cleveland Indians #7)
6 IP, 10 K , 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB

It was a debut for the record books for McKenzie as the 23 year old not only picked up the W, he did so while allowing just two hits and one walk. Factor in the fact that McKenzie faced 20 batters and struck out 10 of them and you know this is a debut we will be talking about for a long time. Tejay Antone, RHP (Cincinnati Reds #27)
5 IP, 8 K, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 BB

Antone has been providing some valuable innings for the Reds and last week was no different. He faced a total of 18 batters between his two relief appearances and struck out eight while allowing no runs. Prospects1500’s Reds correspondent, Rudie Verougstraete, had a prospect profile piece on Antone last week.

Jesus Luzardo, LHP (Oakland Athletics #1)
6.1 IP, 7 K, 0 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, W

Luzardo may be a staple in this series until he loses his prospect eligibility. The prize A’s lefty prospect picked up his second win in his fourth start of the season. He struck out seven Diamondbacks as the 22 year old shutout his opponent through his 6.1 IP.

Sixto Sanchez, RHP (Miami Marlins #1)
5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, W

It wasn’t a stellar MLB debut for Sanchez, one of the most highly touted pitching prospects over the last couple of years, but it was a good debut. He showed glimpses of dominance with his 100mph fastball, and most importantly, showed composure and pitched well enough for the W. A 5 IP, 3 ER, 4 K performance will not usually land someone on our POTW list, but Sixto debuts and it’s good enough for this week!
