Each week during the Arizona Fall League season we pick the hitting and pitching prospects who, in our opinion, had the best week. The team awards the Prospects of the Week hitters and pitchers, while also presenting other names that are just as deserving of POTW honors. Feel free to reply in the comments with any player who deserves to be mentioned that may not have made our cut.

Any issues with this week’s POTW? Did we miss anyone deserving? Hit us up and set us straight! As always, tweet us @Prospects1500 when you see a great performance that warrants consideration for Prospect of the Week. Enjoy, and make sure you’re keeping an eye out for these prospects in your dynasty leagues.

CO-HITTERS:
Austin Martin, SS (Twins #2)
Glendale Desert Dogs (4 G, .611/.619/.889/1.508, 11 H, 2 2B, HR, 6 RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 SB)
Martin scuffled in 2022, as he suffered from a wrist injury and was unable to provide the power he had hoped would develop. After a strong September where he hit .268 and mashed two home runs, he has carried that momentum over to the Arizona Fall League where he is thriving. So far he is batting .500 with one home run and five steals while also contributing two extra base-hits. Last season, Matt Wallner used the Fall League to initiate a breakout the following season….will this be a precursor to Martin’s in 2023? (@sportz_nutt51)

T.J. Rumfield, 1B/3B (Yankees NR)
Mesa Solar Sox (4 G, .615/.600/1.154/1.754, 8 H, 4 2B, HR, 5 RBI, 4 R, BB)
While splitting time at first base with Cubs prospect Matt Mervis, Rumfield went 8-13 hitting .615 over the last week. Hitting with power to all fields Rumfield had 4 doubles, 1 home run, 4 runs and 5 RBI. Over 7 games with the Solar Sox’s Rumfield is 12-24 with 4 doubles 1 home run, 5 runs and 10 RBI. He also has a 4:4 BB/K rate. For more on Rumfield check out @paulwoodin1 article about Yankees prospects in the AFL. (@PaulWoodin1)

Honorable Mentions:

Matt Mervis, 1B (Cubs #15)
Mesa Solar Sox (4 G, .333/.357/1.167/1.524, 4 H, 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 3 R, BB)

Heston Kjerstad, OF (Orioles #8)
Scottsdale Scorpions (4 G, .368/.368/.789/1.157, 7 H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 4 R)
Will Wagner, 2B (Astros NR)
Surprise Saguaros (4 G, .462/.533/.846/1.379, 6 H, 5 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB)
Zac Veen, OF (Rockies #2)
Salt River Rafters (4 G, .500/.611/.571/1.182, 7 H, 2B, 4 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB, 4 SB)
After two weeks of play, Veen leads the AFL in stolen bases (8) and hits (16).

PITCHER: Connor Van Scoyoc, RHP (Angels #18)
Scottsdale Scorpions (1 GS, 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K)
Van Scoyoc had a rough start to the fall league as he’s now dealing with tougher competition than he faced in Single-A. He looks to have adjusted by being the first pitcher to go 5 innings. Continuing to build on this start and last season will be important for his confidence next year. (@A_Rhodes77)

Honorable Mentions:
Joey Wentz, LHP (Tigers #13)
Salt River Rafters (1 GS, 4 IP, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K)
Justin Fall, LHP (Marlins NR)
Mesa Solar Sox (1 GS, 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K)
Hunter Stanley, RHP (Guardians NR)
Peoria Javelinas (1 GS, 3.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K)
Tyler Myrick, RHP (Giants NR)
MiLB team (2 G, 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, SV)
