Prospects of the Week: April 18 – April 24

Each week during the Minor League Baseball season we pick the hitting and pitching prospects from each level (Triple-A, Double-A, High-A, and Single-A) who, in our opinion, had the best week. The team awards the Prospects of the Week hitters and pitchers for each level, while also presenting other names at each level that are just as deserving of POTW honors. Feel free to reply in the comments with any player who deserves to be mentioned that may not have made our cut.

Any issues with this week’s POTW? Did we miss anyone deserving? Hit us up and set us straight! As always, tweet us @Prospects1500 when you see a great performance that warrants consideration for Prospect of the Week. Enjoy, and make sure you’re keeping an eye out for these prospects in your dynasty leagues.

Triple-A

HITTER: Darick Hall, 1B (Phillies #47)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs (6 G, .333/.429/.917/1.345, 8 H, 2 2B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 9 R, 4 BB)
Hall, the International League’s Player of the Week, went bonkers this week. One of those home runs was the 100th over his six-year minor league career. The former 16th round pick has always shown power but is now hitting for a better average. He could be called up sometime this year, especially with the NL adopting the DH which would give Hall some additional opportunities. (@tonybps1)

Honorable Mentions:
Jonathan Aranda, 3B (Rays #12)
Durham Bulls (6 G, .440/.483/.720/1.203, 11 H, 4 2B, HR, 8 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB)

Shea Langeliers, C (Athletics NR, was Braves #3 preseason)
Las Vegas Aviators (6 G, .417/.482/.750/1.232, 10 H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB)

PITCHER: Matthew Liberatore, RHP (Cardinals #2)
Memphis Redbirds (1 GS, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K)
In his best start of the young season, Liberatore kept a good Omaha lineup off balance. In his 7 innings, he gave up only 2 singles, walked no one, struck out 9, and recorded 6 outs via groundballs. He earned International League Pitcher of the Week honors. (@JMahyfam)

Honorable Mentions:
Grayson Rodriguez, RHP (Orioles #2)
Norfolk Tides (1 GS, 5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K)

Jack Suwinski, OF (Pirates #28)
Altoona Curve (6 G, .458/.500/.917/1.417, 11 H, 5 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 7 R, BB, SB)

PITCHER: Edgar Barclay, LHP (Yankees #43)
Hudson Valley Renegades (2 G, 1 GS, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 13 K)
Three innings of relief in one game, with 7 punch-outs. Then he goes 4 innings in a start, giving up only 1 hit and striking out 6. He’s only leading all of New York’s MiLB pitchers in WHIP (0.71, tied with Manny Banuelos), FIP (1.30), K/BB (19) and BB/9 (0.71). @elijfishman told all of us to remember the name.

Carolina League Player of the Week!

PITCHER: Andrew Painter, RHP (Phillies #4)
Clearwater Threshers (1 GS, 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 14 K)
Painter was lights out this week, striking out 14 of the 16 Tampa batters that he faced. He gave up one hit and walked none. That performance has given Painter 30 strikeouts in 12 innings this season. Painter’s fastball touched 99 mph in the game and his command was sharp. It’s only a matter of time before we see Painter facing better competition in Double-A. (@tonybps1)

Honorable Mentions:
Riley Martin, LHP (Cubs NR)
Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2 G, W, 7.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 17 K)
Relievers need some attention too! Martin, your Carolina League Pitcher of the Week, was dominant in his two outings this past week, tallying 17 strikeouts in only 7.1 shutout innings. He gave up a double in his first outing of the week, and a harmless single in his second outing. Other than a couple of walks, Delmarva had absolutely no luck against Martin. (@Scotty_Ballgame)

Marco Raya, RHP (Twins #24)
Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (1 GS, 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K)
Florida State League Pitcher of the Week!
