Welcome to the Prospects1500 Minor League Injury Report for June 2024. Here are some of the major injury headlines in the world of baseball prospects.

Jordan Lawlar, SS – Arizona Diamondbacks

Lawlar injured himself while legging out a triple late last week. It was determined that he would miss some time with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, thus once again halting any progress and development he was ready to show. This is his second major injury in 2024, as he previously had surgery on his thumb. While his injury history is pretty sparse, it is somewhat concerning how little he has played this season. If he doesn’t play again this season, he will end the year with 34 plate appearances.

Jackson Holliday, SS – Baltimore Orioles

Holliday has had a frustrating season thus far. After being overwhelmed in Baltimore, his demotion back to Triple-A Norfolk has taken a negative turn here with the injury to the elbow. As stated in the quote, the hope is that a few weeks of rest will be enough for him to come out of this a healthy player. The initial belief was that some time in the minor leagues would give him the experience and confidence that he needed to reach his potential. It’s also possible that his recent slump this month at the plate was related to his ailing elbow.

Samuel Basallo, C – Baltimore Orioles

The hope here is that his injury is a minor one that will allow him to return to game action as soon as possible. He had been thriving in June up until this point, recording fourteen hits in the month of June, with three of them being home runs. He’s all but made up for the time that he lost to start the season with an elbow injury.

Coby Mayo, 3B – Baltimore Orioles

Mayo suffered a fractured rib in the middle of May when he crashed into the dugout trying to catch a foul ball. He has since begun his rehab assignment and picked up where he left off. In his first three games back, he went 4-for-8, and all of those hits went for extra bases. He looks locked and loaded and ready to contribute at the Major League level. All that remains is an opportunity to do so.

Zac Veen, OF – Colorado Rockies

Veen started the season on fire for Double-A Hartford, using his talents to become a five-category player. There was some initial fear that this injury would set him back a bit, given how much time he has lost in the past with other ailment. It’s important to note too that he also suffered an injured thumb. It would appear that he is ready to get back to action soon, though a rehab assignment seems warranted first.

Jett Williams, SS – New York Mets

Williams began feeling discomfort early in the season. He would get two cortisone injections to help ease the pain, but ultimately more was needed. He recently had successful surgery for this debridement, and the hope is that he will play again this season, though there is a chance that this is a season-ending injury. The team has high hopes for Williams and taking things slowly seems like the right move.

Jasson Dominguez, OF – New York Yankees

Dominguez will miss some time on the Injured List with an injury to his left side. At the time of this writing, it is unknown if this is an oblique strain or even the severity of the situation. Regardless of what it is, his time away while rehabbing and recovering is discouraging. He had just finished recovering from Tommy John Surgery and was awaiting his time to be inserted into the Yankees lineup. While that could still happen this season, it may not happen for quite awhile.

Carson Williams, SS – Tampa Bay Rays

Williams has had a successful season thus far, and him being hit by a pitch was a scare to everyone. While it’s good to see that the MRI came back clean, it remains to be seen if this will affect his performance going forward.

Junior Caminero, 3B – Tampa Bay Rays

There was some pushback at the Rays when Caminero started the season with Triple-A Durham. While his performance on the field has been good, it’s his body’s inability to stay healthy that is somewhat concerning. He has now missed significant time this year with injuries to his quads that continue to reappear. By the time he returns in July, he will have had just 34 at-bats and 35 strikeouts to show for himself in 2024. It’s been a disappointing season for anyone who drafted him in the off-season, and one that tests the patience of fantasy owners in dynasty leagues.

Ricky Tiedemann, LHP – Toronto Blue Jays

Tiedemann has had difficulty staying healthy for quite a while.  He was rumored to be in the mix for the Opening Day rotation for the Blue Jays, but after months of hamstring and elbow injuries, he has thrown just 8.1 innings of Minor League baseball as of this return. He is still in line to be a big part of the team’s future, but any hopes of him contributing in 2024 all hinge on his health. As stated, this outing was more about getting onto the mound as opposed to what he actually did while there.
