Owen Surett (Carolina League)

Hello everybody, my name is Owen Surett and I’m happy to be part of the Prospects1500 team. I’ll be covering the Carolina League for the 2020 season. I’m a young baseball fan from New Jersey and my favorite thing to do is go to games and see prospects. Many thanks to Scott Greene (@Scotty_Ballgame) for giving me this opportunity to share my work here on this great website. I am lucky enough to be in a good location to frequent minor league baseball games. Here at Prospects1500 I will be writing about the SAL and specifically covering Lakewood BlueClaws games. I’ll be writing scouting reports on many prospects that I’m able to see in my visits to FirstEnergy Park. In my first column I will detail my so-called “target list,” or players that I am excited to go check out this season.

While Prospects1500 generally leans toward covering prospects from a dynasty baseball perspective, my content will include more of a “real baseball” point of view. In other words my position player reports will often slant toward scouting for the 5 tools (hit, power, run, defense, arm) and maybe not as much examining the player through the 5×5 category lens used in fantasy baseball.

Despite being an avid Mets fan my whole life, my baseball knowledge is pretty balanced across all 30 organizations. I don’t only follow pro ball. I’m a big college baseball/MLB Draft buff and I enjoy traveling around chasing draft prospects. When it’s not baseball season I watch a lot of college football and college basketball, rooting for the West Virginia Mountaineers. You can follow me on Twitter @CountryRoads277. Feel free to reach out on there if you have thoughts to share or questions about a SAL player, or anything prospect/baseball related.
