Hello everyone! My name is Bailey Srebnik. I reside in South Florida in the Fort Lauderdale area. I am a sophomore in High School who is an avid baseball fan and enjoys writing. Thank you to @Scotty_Ballgame for giving me the opportunity to share my passion for the game of baseball with you all. I am very excited to be joining the Prospects1500 staff to write about the Florida State League!
As someone growing up in South FL, you may not expect my favorite baseball team to be the Baltimore Orioles. I went to my first Spring Training game back in 2009 at Fort Lauderdale Stadium to see the Orioles vs. Rays. The game was unfortunately rained out, but I got some Orioles merch and started liking the O’s as a result. The following year, the Orioles moved to Sarasota but came to Jupiter for one game. My Dad got us passes to go on the field during BP. I walked around, got some autographs from the Orioles players, and then a guy asked my Dad “do you think he’d like my autograph?” Turns out it was Hall of Fame Pitcher Jim Palmer. I’ve been a huge Orioles fan ever since. Since then, I’ve made sure to see the Orioles each year during Spring Training, I make an annual trip to the Trop to see them play, and I made my first trip to Camden Yards last summer. It is such an amazing ballpark.
A close second for my favorite MLB Team would be the Tampa Bay Rays. They are my Dad’s favorite team, and I’ve become heavily invested in them as well. My favorite MLB game I’ve ever attended was a Rays game. I went to Game 4 of this year’s ALDS, the first MLB Postseason game I’ve ever attended. It was such a cool experience, and topping it off with a Rays win was pretty special. I have high hopes for them in 2020!
I also root for my hometown Miami Marlins. They are the MLB team I’ve seen play the most in person over the years. I’d say one of the top perks of being a baseball fan in FL is Spring Training. It is something that has definitely contributed to my baseball fandom. It seems like I end up going to more and more Spring Training games each year! Always looking forward to March.
I would say that perhaps my favorite aspect of baseball in general is Minor League Baseball. From Triple-A to Rookie Ball, I’ve seen many MiLB games in person, and have enjoyed every second of it. The majority of the MiLB games I attend are in the Florida State League, and at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, FL. I enjoy traveling the state seeing future MLB stars play as well. I also try to go to Jacksonville each year to catch some Southern League games. There is something so serene about going to MiLB games. I especially enjoy meeting the players at games and getting pictures and autographs. Although I don’t live too close to Daytona Beach, after a trip to Jackie Robinson Ballpark in 2017, I became a fan of the Daytona Tortugas, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. It’s been fun rooting them on these past few years. I am already practically counting down the days to the 2020 FSL All Star Game, which will be at The Jack in Daytona!
My Dad has had a big influence on my sports fandom. He has been taking me to games, both as a fan and a player, for my whole life. I always have a blast when I am at a ballpark. It is such a fun experience every time.
When I’m not watching baseball (if that’s even possible), you’ll find me watching Seattle Seahawks games, Florida State Seminoles football and basketball games, listening to music (Queen, U2, Oasis, Billy Joel, Rush, Bob Seger, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, etc), vacationing at Walt Disney World, and hanging out with my awesome pet cats. Come to think of it, I suppose you could do all of these things while also still watching baseball…
Thank you for reading! I am looking forward to writing about the Florida State League for Prospects1500. If you would like to discuss the FSL, baseball, prospects, and more, you can find me on Twitter at @FsuBailey12.
Hello, my name is Bailey Srebnik. I am the Social Media Manager for Prospects1500, and I am also the Florida State League correspondent and Tampa Bay Rays co-correspondent. I am a junior in High School, residing in the Ft Lauderdale area. Living in FL, I enjoy going to Spring Training games each season. I also attend many MiLB games each year, mainly in the Florida State League. I root for the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, and Daytona Tortugas. I am currently in 4 deep dynasty baseball leagues, which is fun. Being a person who enjoys math, I’m also really into the sabermetrics. I find it fascinating. When it comes to music, I am a big fan of Oasis and The Killers. You can find me on Twitter at @xwOBAiley. Thank you for reading.
Welcome Bailey! Always look forward to hearing about Florida prospects. I like the Marlins & Rays too but the attendance for both makes me feel like MLB would be best off moving the latter to Montreal where they can fill the park and perhaps out of that NL East that’s incredibly hard to compete in for a small market club like them.
